I've heard that there are certain ways you can try to control the gender of the baby. This can be done by timing and position during intercourse?

I have heard that positions, timing, and diet can matter, but it seems to be all old wives' tales. I think it's all just luck... and in the end, a healthy baby is all that matters, whether it be a boy or a girl. =)

There is some real evidence to support the claim that timing may affect gender. The Shettles method says that if you have intercourse several days before you ovulate, only the "girl sperm" will survive in time for the egg. I don't believe I've come across anything that supports the idea of positions affecting gender, however, positions can affect success rates, if you have a tilted uterus and other such fertility-impairing anatomy-related issues.

The 'male sperm' have been found to have a poorer survival rate compared to the 'female sperm.' This being the case, some say that anything you can do to give the males a boost can increase your chances of having a male. One theory is that if you have sexual intercourse in any position that allows for deepest penetration, that would assist with the male sperm's chances of making it to the egg.
I have also read that depending on the composition of your vaginal fluid, you can hinder or help the sperm. Male sperm can get killed off easier if the vaginal fluid is too acidic or harsh for it. Based on this, I think there are certain foods that people say women who are TTC should consume or avoid.
